Uganda Maliba Natural One Roast
This is our first specialty grade natural from Uganda. We chose this lot because it is so clean and consistent. Maliba is perfect because it is amongst the most versatile of coffees that we have had through our doors in a while, oh, and did I mention, that it is stunning? This is a natural worth waiting for.

On opening, Maliba is clean, ripe, and really sweet. Initially, we have a chocolate and fig jam combination. On cooling, the liquor improves and the fruity element elevates, to a brighter yet, sweet tropical brew.
Espresso: 14-22g Shot.
This is up there amongst my favourite coffees in espresso so far in 2020. Long shots based on 1-2.5 (e.g.17g coffee in-43g espresso out ) Longer shots are great as long as your machine isn’t running too hot. In milk, this is like an exotic, creamy fruit pudding.
Historically Uganda has been known for growing robustas and low-grade arabica. Over the last years, there has been a lot of development and as a subsequence, quality has improved immeasurably. Like in Rwanda, there are many smallholder farmers, with tiny plots who are the primary growers.
The Maliba project, meaning ‘animal hides or skin’, takes its name from the region in which the coffee is grown. Kawacom has invested in training and also Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and Utz certifications. Today, the project has expanded significantly, thanks to these successes, today reaching over 10,000 smallholder farmers, many of whom not only receive higher prices for their higher quality coffee but also participate in other social and environmental programs and Kawacom’s cash management project.
