Nilgiri Pu-er

This tea is sourced from The Tea Studio, where collectively “we” pay 7-10 times the going rate for beautifully hand-picked teas.

Indi and Muskhan are good friends, and we love the energy and quality they bring to our tea offering.

Varietal: Camellia Assamica, on old root stock.

This is new crop, fresh tea as opposed to the aged bricks that could be associated with old socks.

Origin & Background

Historically, Pu-erh is a brown tea, produced in Yunnan, often using Camelia Assamoides.

Pu-erh can be aged, and then (I quote from a tea expert), “tastes like old socks”.

This tea is referred to as a black tea, although very mild. This is the same varietal as grown in Yunnan, grown in the Blue Mountains (Nilgiris) in the South of India.

Unlike the aged bricks of Pu-erh, this is a much nicer experience.

Brewing and Recipes

As the old K.I.S.S (Keep it Simple Stupid)saying goes, we find the best recipe to start brewing, the majority of teas that don’t need to go anywhere near milk is:

8-10g of tea per litre

Water temperature: 90 °C

Steep time: 3 minutes.
