I don’t know about you, but sometimes I love a simply delicious cup of coffee.
The hallmarks for me are usually a clean cup with a little acidity. If you were going to summarise what a good washed coffee is, this is it. I have taken this Volcan Azul caturra home for 2 weeks in a row (which is rare for me).
This is the coffee that the family is least known for growing, as they famously produce many wild and wonderful microlots, winning international competitions every year. We have more lots to follow.

Over the last 9 years, we have brought this coffee into the UK in different ways.
Volcan Azul is a 5th-generation farm, producing many different single varietals and processes. The long game is the aim of quality, which we especially like at James Gourmet.
The whole process is controlled by the farm, and the operation is relatively small.
These are all things that work for us. Coffee on a human scale with a history. Echo, echo, echo!
Recipe: 55-65g per litre for Filter
| Aromatics: Green and Fresh | Body: Light-to-Medium | Acidity: Apple and citrus |
For me, this Volcan Azul Caturra opens up nicely and cleanly. This is followed by balanced apple, cocoa and brown sugar with a slightly citrusy finish. This is simply easy drinking and delicious. If familiarity and trust were flavours, I would add them here.
On cooling, the body gets a little creamy for such a light filter. Sweet and sorbitol, like a pear with a touch of citrus, and so much sweetness. For an “ordinary washed coffee”, it is so underrated.
