Costa Rica Volcan Azul Geisha
Costa Rica Volcan Azul Geisha
Limited Edition
You may know that I have held a real shoulder chip over the geisha varietal. This is all down to businesses bidding wild sums on coffees without necessarily channelling the value to the perfect place. We start roasting this coffee with the beginning of the 2025 harvest samples in virtual sight. You may find this coffee at 2 or 3 times the price across Europe, I think there is enough greed in the world without us joining in.
I got the most out of this coffee a full three weeks after roast. Then I wished I had roasted more as it was perfect then!

Erm wow! This coffee starts with sweet grapefruit, a honeyed vibrance and eloquent ripe fruit that embraces you. On cooling, there are ripe white fruit sugars and a mixture of cocoa and a lingering dry citrus. There is so much ripe sweetness and dried fruit sugars; think apricot and date. The longer it sits, the sweeter and riper this becomes.
Farm Info:
We buy Volcan Azul every year and try and keep the Castro family coffees in the roastery for at least half of the year.
Volcan Azul is a 5th-generation farm, producing many different single varietals and processes. The long game is the aim of quality, which we especially like at James Gourmet. The whole process is controlled by the farm and the operation is relatively small. These are all things that work for us. Coffee on a human scale with a history.
