Although this may sound a little cheesy, I would suggest that San Isidro is the kind of coffee that you could put in front of someone who doesn’t know all about coffee and say “This is a classic” Costa Rican! If you could ever drink terroir, the clean cup, altitude-inducing acidity, and just simple deliciousness. This is such an easy coffee to drink and one I would take home. Once again Alejo has made this borderline effortless for us.
One of the great things about Costa Rica Volcan Azul San Isidro is that although a light filter, it can be brewed (surprisingly easily) in espresso too. This takes nothing away from the coffee being a good filter, either.

Off the bat, this Costa Rica Volcan Azul San Isidro is intensely full of character and noticeably creamy on the tongue. If you had put this next to Libertad, you might sense another dimension of quality. From early on, there are lots of white fruit sugars, think lychee/ pear with a depth of cocoa and lingering citrus. On cooling, the finish is persistent and just delicious.
Farm Stuff:
Volcan Azul are exemplary producers. San Isidro is a varietal of Sarchimor descent (a hybrid of Villa Sarchi and Timor) developed in cooperation with Finca Volcán Azul in Costa Rica. It is named after the nearby town of San Isidro. This variety is high quality with good yielding, and disease resistance.
